Customer Rating: Summary: It's good Comment: I had a Lexar 2GB drive and I really loved it. But the Secure/password protection was not working with Vista so I got the 8GB Flash Drive that works great with Windows vista. The only problem I had with this flash drive is that the material is not really durable. It fell from my hand few times and a small crack started on the cover and now the cover is broken. So I guess you need to be extra careful with it.
Customer Rating: Summary: Secure and usable Comment: The secure features of this drive are easy to use and require little jumping through hoops. The built-in encryption application and mounts your password-protected partitions ("vaults") when you plug-in the device (configurable).
Other nice features:
-can be used as a normal flash drive without encryption
-nice bonus features: file shredder and individual file encryption
The only thing it's missing is a Linux client to allow access to secure areas on Linux.
Customer Rating: Summary: Great little flash drive Comment: I always tend to side with lexar flash drives, as I find them more reliable, and the memory display very useful. This little flash drive works great, and is useful for large files of video that I come in contact with as a film student, as I can't always carry my 500Gb hard drive around with me everywhere. Not to mentions flash will work in both Mac and PC, allowing me to move larger files from one to the other.
For a normal person though, 8GB is way over your practical range. Used to have a similar 2GB Lexar before it was stolen, and loved it; was more than enough for document and picture files than I could ever ask for.
Yes there are many other cheaper flash drives out there, but it's worth it for me to get a Lexar, and have faith that my files are that much more secure. As I said before, the memory display is also great, both for data management, and bragging rights.
Customer Rating: Summary: Important detail not disclosed anywhere Comment: I have owned several flash drives from the Lexar Jump Drive Secure lineup over the past few years, in different sizes. I have always found them to be excellent drives that are great for backing up my files on the go and keeping them secure just in case I ever misplaced them.
HOWEVER, on this particular model there is a very important detail that is not disclosed ANYWHERE on the packaging, in the product description on Amazon, or in the other reviews.
The drive is FAT32. FAT32 apparently does not support encrypted vaults larger than 4GB. The drive cannot be formatted NTFS because it is apparently too small to support it.
Maybe most people don't buy these drives with the intent to actually store 7-8 GB of encrypted data, but that is precisely the reason I bought this. Since it cannot do what I need it to do, I am returning it. Very disappointed in this ludicrous design limitation. What good is an 8GB secure flash drive if it can only encrypt 4GB? Especially when a vanilla flash drive of the same capacity is one half to one third of the price right here on Amazon.
Customer Rating: Summary: Exceptional product Comment: I like the extremely large storage capacity and the encryption options. It is great to have the ability to choose my own preferences. I have already found this product to come in very handy!
