Individual design of higher-than-usual artistic quality on every plate and mug create endless opportunities to mix-and-match and talk about it at the dinner table. Bottom "circles" of the plates and mugs are very smooth and do not scratch table surface - valuable quality for me and my glass-top dinner table. The surface of the plates and embedded pictures are hard enough so steel silverware does not scratch them. Dishes are microwave safe, dishwasher safe, chip-resistant and lighter than common porcelain dishes. I am very satisfied with this set. I bought other Butterfly bowls to complement the set.
