Summary: Older units were very nicely done the new ones are cheaply made.
Comment: About 3 years ago I got 4 of the elf shelves in white thinking it was all the storage I would ever need. My habit of buying TV box sets made me fill up all 4 units so I went looking for more. When the new unit arrived and I took it out of the box the first thing I noticed was how much the quality of the had fallen, the older shelves had rounded edges and the wood was painted after all the holes were drilled making the inside of the holes white, the new shelves are boxy and the wood was drilled after they were painted and it looks that the drilling machine was oiled before mine were made because the wood is discolored around each hole.
The units are versatile, easy to assemble and if you ignore the instructions that came with them you can stack put a extra row of DVDs in when you stack 2 or more high.
Also this unit will hold blue ray and PS3 disk without a problem, some of the other ones I looked at the smaller boxes fell off the racks.
You may get lucky and find some of the older shelves but I would not spend any money on the new ones until they up the quality.

Comment: The rack is as described. I read a majority of the reviews before I purchased and can see the different points of view. I only bought one, so I don't have any comments on the stackability of the product. As a one-level stand, it works great. Holds plenty of DVDs and video games (Wii, Nintendo DS, PS2, PS3, and even some old PSOne games). It wasn't too difficult to put together, but I would advise taking your time. Don't rush it, so that you make sure the rods are where they need to go. Count the holes instead of estimating. And don't tighten the screws on the side too much, or it might cause the part that holds the screw in the rod to pop out. You really shouldn't need to super-tighten the screw. If I need another one, I would definitely consider buying another one of these (cheap but sturdy enough, and looks modern). Not sure I'd try stacking them though. Makes me nervous. Took me about an hour to put together -- next one would take less time, I think.

Summary: Great Product, but be careful
Comment: Hi. Just got the package yesteday, and was very pleasantly surprised at how nice it looks and how sturdy it it.
While I agree with some of the comments that the instructions can be a bit better, the assembly is very logical and easy to figure out. And as you go through a couple of steps, the instructions also start making a lot of sense - all the information is there, it just takes a few minutes to figure out the style in which it is laid out.
I have rarely seen a better packaged product. Each part is clearly laballed, and all the screws and smaller items are in individual bags, each labelled with a letter that corrosponds to letter designations on the instruction sheet.
One thing one NEEDS TO BE CAREFUL about is not to tighten the screws too much. Otherwise the screws will damage the surface being screwed into, and you may not even realize it - it does not provide that great a resistance. Just be a little careful with this aspect of the assembly.
Other than that, I have no other complaints (and even that is not really a complaint, just a heads-up).
What I like best about it? The flexibility to set it up wiht the shelf configuration one wants (though, one it is set up, you would need to basically disassemble it to chage the configuration, which would be a pain, so make sure you know the configuration you want before putting it together), and the fact that it is very sturdy.

Comment: This dvd rack works but it's craftsmanship is crappy. the holders for it don't work well and break. and to stack them like it says you really can't... they aren't sturdy either.
