Customer Rating: Summary: Just Love Mancini Comment: Saw the movie, loved it. The music just took me back. There is not any album yet of Mancini that I have not thoroughly enjoyed, and this one like the rest did not dissappoint.
Customer Rating: Summary: Everyone should have this soundtrack!!! Comment: What a soundtrack! I have listened to other Mancini albums, but this arguably is his best non-greatest hits album. It is very listenable from beginning to end. The bonus track on the import is interesting for the addition of vocals (Just For Tonight).
Hatari has three musical themes runing throught: the first is the title and "The Sounds of Hatari." Since this is set in Africa, these two tracks set the stage for actors to chase and capture wild animals.
For the comical side, you have the classic "Baby Elephant Walk," which exactly is what the music was for in the movie. This tune is equivalent to the Pink Panther theme in clearity and rememberance. The song has become an international hit and recorded by numerous artists over the decades. Reading IMDB website, Mancini had written Baby Elephant Walk on a whim while they were shooting the scene of the baby elephants. We also have "Your Father's Feathers" and "Crocodile, Go Home."
And on the cocktail side of things, we have "Just For Tonight", "Night Side", "Big Band Bwana", and "The Soft Touch."
The music is great! Henri Mancini at his best! Don't hesitate in buying it!
