Summary: Some good Chicano Music!!
Comment: This is a great collection of Latin Rock from the 70's! El Chicano has always been a favorite among Raza. There is some variety here with some songs, straight ahead Latin Rock, soulful Latin ballads, and instrumental classics. In the lowrider or just for listening pleasure, I highly recommend it. Also there is a compilation "Back to the Barrio" - rare and hard to find Chicano classics vol. 1. with 21 songs of rare and out of print titles available from Chorizo Records. chorizomusic2003@yahoo.com "Orale!!"

Summary: GOOD STUFF IN ANY LANGUAGE
Comment: Well, here I sit, wondering how I could have so thoroughly
misspent my youth without ever coming across this band. I heard
them on this cd for the first time yesterday. It was recommended
to me by a guy reviewing a "WAR" cd, and I thank him very much.
This is how I would imagine "SANTANA" music would sound if it
wasn't Americanized for mass appeal in the US. Most of the songs
are instumentals and do bear a resemblence to the more Latin
side of "SANTANA".On most of the songs with lyrics I don't have
a clue what their saying, being that I don't understand the
language. But no matter, these guys sound great in any language! This is a first rate cd, and check out the price! I plan to buy
all I can get my hands on by this band. "EL CHICANO"
Thank you

Summary: Four stars
Comment: There are two recordings in this record that deserve five stars:
"Viva Tirado" and "Cayuco". The rest is rather poor, specially "La Cucaracha". However, the price is very attractive and that is why I concede it four stars.

Summary: Major Early Latin Music Influence
Comment: ...I have all the vinyl, wrapped and CD'd. I always thought they really personified what real Latin/Chicano music meant to us Gringos who needed an intro beyond the "Evil Ways" music...Sound a lot like many of the good local Latin bands here in AZ. Beautiful music. I always wondered what happened to the Latina who sang so well on the second album (as in "Sabor A Mi").Go for it. No disappointments.

Summary: El Chican, El Magnifico !
Comment: Whoooaaa, Yeah all right ! This band smokes man, and sounds more like Santana than Abraxas Pool does, in fact it seriously compares to Santana. The sound of the congas has been beautifully captured in the mix and brought to the fore to great effect. The percussion sounds (in parts) like Osibisa's without the cabasa. There are eleven tracks listed on this CD, but the boys have cheated by listing "La Cucuracha" as a song. It's really just a few seconds' jive, an excuse to have some fun and mention MA-RI-HU-ANA! OK, all's forgiven, no one's complaining.
All the tracks on this CD are first class. Track one, "Chicano Chant" is very Santana-ish, as is track ten "El Cayuco", and absolutely fabulous. Track 7 "Sabor a mi" is a ballad.....beautiful !
If you want to dance, turn the volume way up high, press continuous play, strip down to your underwear, if you're wearing a bra get rid of it.....outta tha window. Bottle of Tequila in one hand, whatever it is that you smoke on the other, then hit the play button and let 'er rip baby. Dance baby, dance. Yeeee Ha! Then... call an ambulance !
